Balance Pitta Dosha in the Summer
Today is the official first day of summer! With it comes the beautiful sunshine, warm weather and colorful gardens. Summer can be a wonderful time of year for most. Yet it can bring about some imbalances when it comes to our constitution, our dosha.
The three doshas are vata, pitta and kapha. The doshas are three general body types or constitutions. Vata is represented by movement, lightness, small, and dry. Pitta is active, medium in size, and hot. Kapha is stable, heavy, large, and slower. Understanding your dosha helps to understand what is happening from a broad, holistic point of view.
Summer is a time that pitta reigns due to the heat and intensity of the sun. The additional heat can cause irritability, rashes, and lethargy. Summer time pitta dries out the bodily tissues and reduced appetite.
To balance pitta in the summer eat a diet with sweet, cold and light foods for easy digestion.
Some great summer foods are watermelon, cucumber, grapes, endive, kale and pomegranate. Try this recipe for Lemon Raspberry Sorbet to keep you cool this summer!
