Student Spotlight: Gaye Parsons
Interview by: Fred Paull
If you are at GMY for an evening class or a Saturday morning practice you undoubtedly know Gaye Parsons. A committed yogini, Gaye focuses on her asanas and you will never see her “going through the motions”. She is a dedicated student with a love for yoga and we thought you’d like to get to know her a bit better.
Allow me to introduce Gaye Parsons, Green Mountain Yoga’s Newest Student Spotlight.
FP: Tell me a little bit about yourself.
GP: I live in Arvada with my husband Peter and our Golden Retriever, Jake. I am a manager for Wells Fargo Bank in my professional life and I love yoga!
FP: How long have you been practicing yoga?
GP: I practiced on and off from 1993 through 2006. I have had a consistent practice since 2002.
FP: What interested or inspired you to start a yoga practice?
GP: I was always fascinated by yoga poses and wondered about the theory behind yoga.
FP: How has yoga affected your life and lifestyle?
GP: Through yoga asanas and meditation I have become much more centered and balanced. I am also stronger both physically and mentally.
FP: Why do you continue to practice yoga?
GP: Due to the reasons above and being strong and centered helps me through my day with a more positive outlook and attitude.
FP: What do you notice in your life if you don’t get in for classes in a week or more?
GP: Stress definitely has a more negative effect on me.
FP: If you were talking to someone who has never practiced yoga, what would you tell them about your experience?
GP: The older we become the more important strength and flexibility becomes. Yoga allows me to go through my day pain free and with a sense of well being.
FP: Why do you enjoy practicing at GMY?
GP: Mindy and Karen have worked hard to create a sense of community and atmosphere of acceptance. I enjoy being part of something alive and viable.
FP: What has yoga done for you outside the studio?
GP: I am more accepting of myself and others. Physically I am able to do more than many woman younger than I am.
FP: Do you have a favorite class?
GP: I get something from every class. I love all the classes GMY offers.
Gaye is an honest, gentle strong woman and she is part of our community here at GMY. She exudes a sense of calm and always goes the extra mile to help a fellow student with a difficult or complex posture while being a positive coach and role model for all students.
Thank you for chatting with us Gaye. We look forward to seeing you in the studio for many moons (and half moon poses) to come!
