Yoga is like riding a bike
Summer is in full swing and our lives couldn’t be busier. The kids are home from school, we are traveling, plus all the fun things that Colorado has to offer keep us so busy. With all of these commitments, when can we find time to practice yoga? Even though we may be out of our normal routine during the summer, no matter how long it’s been since we have attended class, our body will remember.
A yoga student recently told me that since she hadn’t been to yoga for such a long time she felt like she would be behind. My response to her is that yoga is like riding a bike. We don’t ever forget how to do it. Yoga is physical, not intellectual. It is in your body and your body has a long memory.
The practice of yoga doesn’t rely on our conscious mind, which is the part of our brain that is for thinking, studying and computing. Instead, yoga relies on our “body mind,” which is dependent upon movement. Your conscious mind doesn’t have to remember how to do yoga because the knowledge remains in your body. You might feel a little rusty and need refining but it is still there.
A new student of GMY, who took her first class ten years ago, was relieved to discover that she could still do the yoga postures and breath work. Whether you’ve been off of your mat for two weeks, two months or two years you can always come back to this practice and your body will be there for you.
The more regular and consistent you are with your practice the more profound the benefits of yoga will appear in your life. Yoga helps keep you clear and centered. It welcomes in prosperity and abundance into your life. Committing to practice twice a week is a great place to help you take charge of your life and reap the benefits that yoga brings to you.
No matter how long it has been since you’ve laid out your yoga mat, your body will remember and you will be welcomed into our class room.
