The Seed of Knowledge
By Mindy Arbuckle, E-RYT
As summer comes nearer to its end and we transition back into our fall routines of school and work it gives me pause to step back, to study and to think about the knowledge that can be attained this year. What seed of knowledge do I want to plant this year for myself? Abundance, loving kindness, practicing calmness in all situations, living in the present moment?
What do I want my children and colleagues to learn from me? Will they learn to be efficient while being totally stressed? Or can I be an example of calm while maintaining my life? Will I teach them that there is never enough or that we live an abundant life? Will my example teach others to be judgmental of people and of themselves or to be compassionate in all situations?
In order to teach others you must first learn yourself. Be a student of life by learning, observing, and loving. Take time every day to pause and observe your actions from a place of non-judgment, non-attachment and compassion. Are there places in your life that you can improve upon? Can you offer more compassion to yourself in certain situations? Recognize some of your weak spots and strengthen them. Observe how many negative thoughts come up on a daily basis and realize various thought patterns. Recognize if those thoughts are true or false. If they do not serve you let them go.
Everyday offers you the opportunity to release yourself from old habits and patterns. Whatever it is you can improve upon there is nothing standing in your way of change except yourself.
Take a yoga class, meditate, help someone just for the sake of helping them, go to church, enjoy a hike in the mountains. Do something that makes you feel good. These types of activities plant the seed of knowledge. The seed of knowledge is a small glimpse of the possibilities of your life. Learn of your Self, learn from life. Let this connection, however big or small, give you a glance of the divine spark within all of us.
Plant your seed of knowledge and let your divine energy grow, blossom and provide beauty to all that is near you. With this seed of knowledge growing within you are sure to offer wise teachings to those around you. They will feel the shift in you and will learn valuable life lessons because of it.
