Advanced Teacher Training

Green Mountain School of Yoga

If you’ve completed a 200 hour program but feel the need to learn more this is your opportunity to dive into many of the juicy aspects yoga has to offer. You’ll learn the depths that yoga has to offer and be able to translate that into your life and your teachings. This training is so much more than asana! Come join us and learn how yoga truly can be your life.

Advanced Yoga Teacher Training Requirements: Each applicant is required to have completed a Yoga Alliance approved 200 hour yoga teacher training. If you did not graduate from the GMSY 230 hour program you will be required to purchase the training manuals from our Basic Yoga Training program and possibly take a short bridge program customized to you and the training you have received. This is to ensure that you have gained the foundational vocabulary and principles taught in the GMSY 230 hour Teacher Training which are reinforced in the Advanced Teacher Training program. The applicant must fill out an application form and will be selected through a private interview with Mindy.

Take any four modules to meet the minimum 300 hour requirement of the Yoga Alliance or take them all. Modules can be taken one at a time or two per semester.

Training Course Dates

Yoga Training at Green Mountian Yoga
The Advanced Yoga Teacher Training Modules will be held twice a year, similar to university semesters. The modules are 19 weeks long. Classes meet one day per week Wednesdays from 1:30-5:30 pm.

A second class option has recently been added to accommodate those with a tighter schedule. One course will be offered per year that will take two semesters to get through. It will meet from August through May on Mondays at 4:00-6:00 pm. The course start dates are as follows:

  • Chakras and the Creative Energies – August 1 (year long course) and August 3 (one semester), 2011
  • Ramayana and Deities – January 17, 2012
  • Teaching Methodology – July 31, 2012
  • Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita – January 16, 2013
  • Ayurveda and Yoga Asana: Pathways into Healing – July 31, 2013
  • Yoga Sutras – January 15, 2014
  • Classical Hatha Yoga – July 30, 2014

Curriculum

All modules and classes will dive deeply into the ancient study and practices of yoga. You will learn how to deepen your own practices as well as help guide your students (if you teach) into a practical application of these techniques. Become a more well rounded individual and take your teaching to the next level.

Chakras and the Creative EnergiesChakra Crystals

Chakras like you’ve never known them before! An in depth study of the energy centers, examining the classical yoga texts to discover the origin of the chakras. We will relate asana, pranayama, meditation, mudra, and mantra practices to the chakras. As well as deepen our study of how Sanskrit and marma points relate to the chakras.

We will be not only studying the chakras but learning how to apply them to our asana practice and classes, feeling their energy and using that wisdom to help students, learning deeper meditations in order to facilitate healing and growth from the inside out and so much more!

We will enjoy a regular sadhana (practice) dedicated to a particular chakra and break down postures as they relate to the details of each chakra. Comprehensive study of the chakras, energetic/eastern anatomy, Swara Yoga, mantra & meditation, pranayama, and pratyahara practices. We will study the energy of crystals and pranic healing to heal ourselves and others.



The Ramayana & Mythology

The Ramayana is one of yoga’s epic stories. We will study this narrative by focusing on the lessons within, symbolism, and how we can apply it to our teaching. Learn to relate stories to students, incorporate asanas, and bring symbolism into the classroom. This module will focus on Sanskrit, the gods and goddesses, mythology, mantra and meditation.

Each class will include a sadhana (practice) as well as studying individual postures and how develop the symbolism and stories associated with them. This module will focus on the study of the Ramayana, the deities, mantra, and meditation.

Teaching Methodology

Develop your ability to teach yoga from a newer, deeper perspective. We will cover asanas to deepen your personal practice, dive into the art of pranayama, learn new meditations and mantras, have fun with mudras and work on the Sanskrit alphabet. In addition learn techniques of body reading: the language of the body, fine tune your verbal teaching skills, develop intelligent sequencing, the art of adjusting, and using yoga as a healing technique.

Each class will include a sadhana (practice) of asana, pranayama, and meditation as well as detailed study of asana. This module will focus on detailed study of the texts, pranayamas, and teaching skills.

Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita

The Mahabharata is one of the world’s longest epic poems. It is a wonderful ancient story about family, love, war, and life. This is an amazing book of knowledge and lessons to be used in our yogic lifestyles. The Bhagavad Gita is a part of the Mahabharata and is studied worldwide for its practical advice on how best to live in this world. We will focus on postures that relate to the Mahabharata and the symbology of the story.

Each class will include a sadhana (practice) of asana, pranayama, and meditation as well as detailed study of asana. We will enjoy in depth study of the texts, pranayamas, and relating subtle energies to the Mahabharata.

Ayurveda and Yoga Asana: Pathways into HealingYoga Training Down Dogs

Ayurveda is Yoga’s sister science of natural healing within the mind, body, and spirit. We will dive into general understanding of the doshas, gunas, prakriti, and marma therapy. Through the study of Ayurveda we will develop an understanding of how to use our yoga practices to balance our doshic constitution.

Each class will include a sadhana (practice) of asana, pranayama, and meditation as well as detailed study of asana. We will study the texts, pranayamas, and all around ayurvedic understanding.

Yoga Sutras: The Vision of Patanjali

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is the defining work of Yoga. Studying this book brings a wealth of knowledge to our yoga practice and our lives. In this module we will immerse ourselves into the eight limbs of yoga, meditation and the mind, how karma works, and paths to samadhi.

Each week will include a sadhana (practice) of asana, pranayama, and meditation as well as detailed study of asana. We will study in depth the texts, pranayamas, and the traditional yoga system.

Classical Hatha Yoga

In this intensive training, students will learn about the origins of classical hatha yoga. We will study two of the most revered yogic texts: the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and the Gheranda Samhita. We will compare the information in the two books and learn to apply it to our personal practice as well as with our students. An in depth study of the postures will include various physical and energetic aspects of the pose, the Sanskrit translation, and variations.

Each class will include at least a one hour sadhana (practice) of asana, pranayama, and shat karma as well as a detailed study of asana. This course will also cover in depth study of the texts, pranayamas, and cleansing practices.
